How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Recording Studio for a Day in Toronto?
A full ten-hour day at 24K Studios costs C$800 with an engineer in the room the whole time, or C$550 when every hour falls on a Tuesday. There is no separate day rate: any length from one hour to ten is the hourly rate times the hours, and no HST is added.
What a day buys
Most songs you know well track in two to four hours, so a ten-hour day is room for roughly three to five of them, with the engineer comping takes as you go. A day suits the vocals for an EP, a song with several featured artists arriving in turn, or a project where the writing is still happening in the room.
When a day is too much
Because the rate is flat, booking less never costs more per hour. If one song is ready, book two to four hours: C$160 to C$320, or C$110 to C$220 on a Tuesday. Book the day when you have the material to fill it.
How the day runs
- Start any time from 9 AM. Every session ends by 2 AM closing, so a ten-hour day has to start by 4 PM.
- The engineer is there for every hour, setting the chain for each voice and comping as you go.
- Breaks are yours to take. The booking is the clock, so plan food and rest into it.
Paying for it
Half is paid online when you book, to hold the room: C$400 for a regular ten-hour day. The rest is paid at the studio after the session by card, debit or cash. Cancel or move with 24 hours or more notice and the deposit comes back in full.
A Tuesday day
On 24K Tuesdays every hour is C$55 instead of C$80. Start at 9 AM and all ten hours are Tuesday hours. Hours after midnight bill at the regular rate, so a Tuesday that runs into Wednesday is partly charged at C$80.
Mixing and mastering are separate
A day of recording ends with comped vocals on the beat. Mixing is priced per song by stem count, from C$150, and mastering is C$100 a track, whether you add them when you book or later.
