24K Studios, Toronto

One room on Queen East. Two kinds of work.

24K Studios is a recording studio at 550 Queen Street East, at River Street, on the 501 streetcar. One control room, one vocal booth, and an in-house engineer on every session. Open 9 AM to 2 AM, seven days a week, including holidays.

Music

Recording, mixing and mastering for artists across every genre. Studio time is C$80 an hour, booked on a live calendar from a single hour up to a ten-hour day, with the engineer comping takes as you go so you leave with a decision made rather than forty files. Tuesdays are C$55 an hour instead of C$80: the same room and the same engineer.

Mixing from C$150 a song and mastering from C$100 a track, whether you tracked here or somewhere else. Three-day turnaround. You get the master and the corrected mix.

The music side

Voice & corporate

Commercial reads, ADR with picture playback in the booth, video game dialogue to a line sheet, narration, e-learning, audiobooks, podcasts and audio forensics. Directed in the room or remotely over Source-Connect, Zoom, Listento or Google Meet. Studio time is C$150 an hour; projects are scoped and quoted within one business day.

Delivered to spec: WAV at 48 kHz / 24-bit or whatever your pipeline needs, MP3s, split files, slates, loudness to broadcast standard. Stereo and mono.

The voice and corporate side

The room

A booth that was built, not treated.

The isolation is in the wall itself, with acoustic foam over the reflective surfaces on top, so a take does not carry the room into the mix: no boxiness to EQ out, no traffic from Queen East. Sightlines run straight from the booth to the desk, so the engineer is looking at you and not at a screen.

The chain is a Neumann U87 or a Warm Audio WA-87 into a Neve 1073SPX or a Universal Audio SOLO/610, into a Universal Audio Apollo x16, monitored on ATC SCM12 Pro, with Yamaha HS8 and Auratone 5C for the second and third opinion. The full list is public.

How booking works

  • Pick a date and a length on the live calendar. It only offers times the room is actually free.
  • Pay half to hold it. The balance is settled at the studio after your session, by card, debit or cash.
  • Move or cancel with 24 hours or more notice and the deposit comes back in full. Rescheduling is free.
  • Sessions must finish by closing, which is 2 AM, so a late start is fine and a long one is too.
