Remote recording

Your director hears the take as it happens.

Directed sessions over Source-Connect, Zoom, Listento or Google Meet. The client, agency or director gives notes in real time and the files are sent the moment the session wraps. The Source-Connect session is part of the hourly rate; nothing is added for it.

The four connections

Which one, and why.

  • Source-Connect for a studio-to-studio patch at broadcast quality, when the other end is also a studio or a voice actor with a Source-Connect rig.
  • Listento, by Audiomovers, for a high-quality feed to a browser: the client hears the actual session audio, not a video call’s compressed version of it.
  • Zoom when the director’s team already lives in it and wants to see the actor as well as hear them.
  • Google Meet for the same reason, when that is the house tool.

The engineer runs the connection, the talkback and the takes. The director runs the read. If the connection has a bad minute, the session audio was never on it: the recording is local, at full quality, whatever the call did.

Before the session

Ten minutes that save an hour.

  • Tell us which connection you use in the brief, so the link is tested before you join.
  • Send the script ahead, even a draft, so it is on the stand and the runtime is known.
  • Say who is directing. One voice giving notes is faster than three.

Time zones

Open until 2 AM, which is late afternoon somewhere.

The studio is open 9 AM to 2 AM, seven days a week, including holidays. For a director in London, Los Angeles or Sydney that is most of their working day covered from Toronto.

Time and money

By the hour. The connection is included.

Studio time is C$150 an hour with the engineer included; projects are scoped and quoted within one business day. The rate is the same at 9 PM on a Sunday as at 10 AM on a Tuesday: the studio is open 9 AM to 2 AM, seven days a week, and evenings and weekends carry no premium. Rates current as of 14 September 2026. Nothing is added for remote direction on any of the four platforms.

Questions people ask

Which remote direction platforms do you support?

Source-Connect, Zoom, Listento and Google Meet. All four are set up, and the engineer runs the connection so the director only has to listen and give notes.

Does remote direction cost extra?

No. It is part of the corporate studio rate.

What if the connection drops?

The recording is local at full quality regardless of the call. A bad minute on the link never touches the take.

Can the director see the actor?

Over Zoom or Google Meet, yes. Source-Connect and Listento are audio-first and higher quality.

Can we book a session in another time zone's working hours?

The studio is open 9 AM to 2 AM daily, including holidays, which covers most of a working day in Europe, the US west coast or Australia.
