Audiobook

Chaptered, proofed, mastered to spec.

Chaptered recording with a proof pass, consistency across days, and mastering to the platform’s loudness and noise-floor specification, so the files pass first time.

Recording

In chapters, across days that match.

An audiobook is days of reading. Each chapter is its own file. Misreads go on a running pickup list and are recorded at the end of the chapter while the voice is in the same place. Room tone is captured so edits are invisible. Between sessions the mic, position, chain and levels are logged and rebuilt, and each day opens with a match check against the last.

The proof pass

Read against the manuscript before anything is mastered.

Every chapter is proofed against the text before mastering: dropped words, doubled lines, a paragraph read twice. Pickups from the proof are recorded to match and cut in. Chapter breaks, credits and front matter are handled as separate files so the platform’s structure is met.

Mastering to spec

Loudness and noise floor, measured.

Audiobook platforms specify loudness, peak and noise floor, and reject files that miss them. Chapters are mastered to that specification and measured, not assumed, so the upload passes the first time. Stereo or mono, whichever the platform wants.

Time and money

By the hour, quoted per book.

Studio time is C$150 an hour with the engineer included; projects are scoped and quoted within one business day. The rate is the same at 9 PM on a Sunday as at 10 AM on a Tuesday: the studio is open 9 AM to 2 AM, seven days a week, and evenings and weekends carry no premium. Rates current as of 14 September 2026. A book is quoted as one figure across its sessions and mastering; regular sessions can be held on a retainer.

Questions people ask

How is an audiobook recorded?

In chapters, each its own file, with pickups on a running list recorded at the end of each chapter and room tone captured for invisible edits.

Do you proof the recording?

Yes. Every chapter is checked against the manuscript before mastering, and pickups are recorded to match.

Will the files pass the platform's spec?

Chapters are mastered to the platform's loudness and noise-floor specification and measured, so the upload passes first time.

Can an author narrate their own book here?

Yes. The engineer runs the session, keeps the pickup list and matches the sound across days; the author only has to read.
